Same land. New view.

Kubinu turns maps, satellite imagery and field data into decisions: where to count, build, plant, protect and invest. For governments, statistics offices, development partners and business, across Africa and the world.

Our approach

Every map is made of tiles. We find the one that changes the decision.

Satellite images, survey frames and field records all arrive as grids of cells. Most of them confirm what you already know. A few change the plan: the ward with no registration point, the road that floods every August, the enumeration area too large to walk in a day. We find those cells, check them on the ground, and show exactly where each finding came from.

  • Ground-truthed

Every finding is checked with people who know the place before anyone relies on it.

  • Sourced

Every layer carries its source, date and method. You can always see where a number came from.

  • Decision-first

We start from the decision you have to make, then choose the data, not the other way round.

What we do

Six services. One aim: a better decision.

01

Census and survey frames

Enumeration areas a field team can walk in a day, checked on the ground.

  • Enumeration area demarcation from current imagery
  • Household and structure listing support
  • Boundaries checked with field supervisors
  • Digital frames ready for tablet-based interviewing

A question it answersHow many enumeration areas does this state need, and can one team cover each in a day?

02

Earth observation

Satellite and drone analysis that shows what changed, and where.

  • Settlement and building extraction
  • Crop type and condition mapping
  • Flood extent and exposure
  • Change over time, season to season

A question it answersHow many buildings now stand in the flood plain, and how many stood there five years ago?

03

Field data systems

Offline collection that keeps working where the network stops.

  • Offline mobile forms with GPS capture
  • Validation rules that run on the device
  • Supervisor dashboards that flag problems the same day
  • Clean datasets with a data dictionary

A question it answersWhich interviewers are sending records from the wrong place, and can a supervisor see it today?

04

Spatial analytics and dashboards

Travel time, coverage gaps and site selection, on maps that update as data arrives.

  • Travel time and access analysis
  • Coverage gaps by grid cell, ward or district
  • Site selection for clinics, schools and depots
  • Dashboards that refresh as new data lands

A question it answersWhich communities are more than an hour from a clinic, and where would one new site help most?

05

Data quality and interoperability

Registries geocoded, boundaries harmonised, duplicates found.

  • Geocoding of registry and facility records
  • Boundary and place-name harmonisation
  • Duplicate, gap and consistency audits
  • Matching rules other agencies can reuse

A question it answersWhich records point to the same place under different names or codes?

06

Capacity building

GIS and field data skills for government and partner teams.

  • Hands-on GIS training using your own data
  • Field supervision and data quality training
  • Method notes and how-to guides
  • Follow-up support after handover

A question it answersCan the ministry's own team update this map next year without outside help?

How a Kubinu map is built

Layer by layer, checked against the ground.

01 / 05
  1. 01
    Imagery

Recent satellite or drone imagery: the base everything else is checked against.

  2. 02
    Terrain

Elevation and slope: where water runs and where roads can go.

  3. 03
    Roads and rivers

The networks people actually travel, checked against the ground.

  4. 04
    Boundaries

Enumeration areas, wards, districts and catchments: the units decisions are made in.

  5. 05
    Insight

The one cell that changes the decision, lifted out and explained.

Layer 01 Imagery Typical source · Sentinel-2 at 10 m, commercial high-resolution scenes, commissioned drone flights
Layer 02 Terrain Typical source · Copernicus DEM at 30 m, drone photogrammetry for small areas
Layer 03 Roads and rivers Typical source · OpenStreetMap, field GPS tracks, river and flood models
Layer 04 Boundaries Typical source · Census frames, official ward and LGA files, field demarcation
Layer 05 Insight Typical source · Kubinu analysis, field checks and method notes

Try it

Re-cut the grid. Find the tile that matters.

The same 5 km grid, read three ways. Switch the question and the map re-sorts itself; then lift out the cell that needs attention first.

Select a cell, or lift the insight.

Sample data, generated for illustration. Not a real place.

Where the work lands

Every sector starts with a question someone has to answer.

01

Statistics and census

“Where should field teams go, and how big should each area be?”

Enumeration area frames, listing support and coverage checks for censuses and household surveys.

02

Civil registration and identity

“Which communities are missing from the register, and why?”

Geocoded registration points, coverage gaps by ward, and links between registration, health and identity systems.

03

Health

“Who is more than an hour from care?”

Facility mapping, travel time analysis, catchments and campaign micro-planning.

04

Agriculture and food systems

“What is planted where, and how is the season going?”

Crop mapping, farm boundaries, input distribution planning and yield risk from imagery.

05

Infrastructure and utilities

“Where will a new road, line or depot serve the most people?”

Network analysis, site selection, asset registers on the map, and change detection along corridors.

06

Humanitarian and climate

“Who is exposed to the next flood or drought, and how fast can help reach them?”

Flood and drought exposure, settlement mapping for response, and access routes when roads are cut.

How we work

Four steps. No surprises at the end.

  1. 1 to 2 weeks

    Scope

We agree the decision the map must serve, the area, the data that exists and what done looks like.

  2. in the field

    Ground truth

Field checks and local knowledge. People who know the place confirm what the data says before anyone relies on it.

  3. weeks, not months

    Build

Analysis, maps and dashboards, reviewed with your team as they take shape rather than revealed at the end.

  4. with training

    Hand over

Data, method notes and training, so your own team can update the work after we leave.

Fixed-scope projectA defined output, timeline and price.
Retained supportA monthly allowance of analyst time for maps and answers on a rolling basis.
Embedded teamKubinu analysts working inside a ministry, agency or programme for a set period.

Questions

What people ask before the first call.

Do you only work in Nigeria?

No. Our roots are in Nigerian national statistics, and we work across Africa and beyond. Most of the method travels; local knowledge comes from field partners in each country.

How does Kubinu relate to Data Druid Tech Services?

They are sister companies with the same founder. Data Druid builds decision intelligence software; Kubinu does the geospatial work. You can contract either one, or both on a single contract.

What does a first project look like?

Usually a one to two week scoping exercise that ends with a clear map of the decision, the data, the gaps and a fixed price for the build. Many clients start with one state, district or programme before scaling up.

How do you handle personal data?

We collect the minimum needed, keep it in access-controlled systems with audit logs, and follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act and the client's own rules. Personal data is removed or aggregated before anything is shared or published.

Will it work with the GIS software we already use?

Yes. We deliver in open formats (GeoPackage, GeoJSON, shapefile, CSV) and can work inside QGIS, ArcGIS or your own platform. You keep the data and the method notes.

How is pricing done?

Fixed-scope projects are priced per deliverable after the scoping call. Retained support and embedded teams are billed monthly. Book a 30-minute call and we will tell you which fits.
