GeoAI and Earth observation

Models that read satellite, drone and street imagery and turn pixels into counts, classes and change.

GeoAI is machine learning applied to maps and imagery. Our models read satellite, drone and street-level images and turn them into things a business can count: buildings, roads, fields, crops, solar panels, shops and change over time. They also estimate population and demand, and let people ask the map questions in plain language.

Every model is checked against field samples and hand-mapped areas before its output is used, and each one ships with a short model card that says what data it learned from, where it was tested and where it is weak.

What's inside · 10 offerings

Each one built to answer a question someone has to decide.

01

Building and road extraction

Takes satellite or drone imagery and returns building polygons and road lines.

What goes into it
  • Used in: Building footprints, Road network, Population grid, Census and survey frames and enumeration systems, Connections versus billing gap
  • How we check it: compared with hand-digitised samples in each new area; footprint overlap and road completeness reported per area before release.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
02

Land use and land cover classification

Takes sentinel-2 time series and returns class per 10 m pixel.

What goes into it
  • Used in: Land use and land cover, Input dealer and agro-dealer coverage
  • How we check it: stratified random sample of points checked on high-resolution imagery and in the field; confusion matrix published per country.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
03

Field boundaries and crop type

Takes sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 time series, field labels and returns field polygons with crop type.

What goes into it
  • Used in: Field boundaries, Crop type, Farm boundary and crop monitoring
  • How we check it: field-collected labels held back from training; results reported per crop and per region.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
04

Change detection

Takes image time series and returns areas and dates of change: new buildings, forest loss, cleared land.

What goes into it
  • Used in: Built-up change, Forest and tree cover loss, Plot deforestation check, Land and property intelligence
  • How we check it: sample of detected and undetected changes reviewed on imagery; false alarms and misses reported per area.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
05

Object detection and counting

Takes high-resolution, drone or street-level imagery and returns points for solar panels, generators, vehicles, shops and signage.

What goes into it
  • Used in: Rooftop solar and generators, Business activity, Retail universe and outlet census, Utility asset register and outage mapping
  • How we check it: counts compared with field counts in sample streets or blocks before a city is released.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
06

Population and demand estimation

Takes building footprints and use, census totals, wealth proxies and returns people and demand per grid cell.

What goes into it
  • Used in: Population grid, Consumer demand index, Store site selection and cannibalisation, Agent banking and POS network planning
  • How we check it: checked against census counts held back at small-area level and, where available, against client sales.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
07

Address parsing and geocoding

Takes written addresses and landmark directions and returns coordinates and the matched building or place.

What goes into it
  • Used in: Address and geocoding index, Address and geocoding service, Location features for credit risk
  • How we check it: tested on addresses with confirmed delivery points; match rate and distance error reported per city.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
08

Ask the map

Takes a question in plain language and returns an answer with the map, the query used and the layers behind it.

What goes into it
  • Used across every product on the platform
  • How we check it: runs read-only on approved layers, shows the query it ran, and logs every question; answers are checked against a test set of known questions.
How it is delivered
Delivered as layers, through the API or inside a product.
